Happy Halloween!

I have stumbled upon an eternal truth: once an elementary school teacher, always an elementary school teacher. I only taught for one year, but every time a holiday comes around, something inside me yearns for color-cut-and-paste decorations, silly holiday math projects, and themed cupcakes.

So, when Halloween hit this year, I repressed the urge to an extent. But it didn't matter that we were moving the next day and had a million things to do. We had to have a jack-o-lantern. We had to read a couple Halloween stories. And trick or treating was not negotiable, regardless of how young Jeffrey is and how few kinds of candy he should actually eat.

So I spent about an hour looking up ideas for jack-o-lanterns. I passed on the McCain/Palin/Obama pumpkins, but I couldn't resist doing something a little non-traditional: As for the trick-or-treating, Jeffrey was Batman. He wore his costume all day long (it was a cool day, and I figured why not. I regretted it when I couldn't make it down a single aisle of the grocery store without Jeffrey being surrounded by crowds of adoring grandma ladies).

We only went to a few houses for trick-or-treating--after all, Jeffrey wasn't really going to eat much candy, and he was too young to care. We just wanted the photo ops and the ten minutes of fun. At first, Jeffrey was pretty confused, but by the third house he knew enough to grab a piece of candy, stick it in his bag, and wave by-bye.
And he knew enough to find the good stuff at Grandma's house....

By the way, in case you didn't know, Halloween isn't Halloween without the appropriate pajamas.
I wonder what we'll find on Jeffrey's bum come Thanksgiving....
